Depends on how you are planning to where it? As an accent or as the only eyeshadow, and heavy or light.
If you are planning for the focus to be the eyeshadow then wear a basic color like black or brown, if you are planning to accent with gold eyeshadow then wear a complimentary color,like violet/purple or a green.
Tan is too monotone, and blue is barbie.
